2 Wins For the SEC, Tennessee Finishes Strong at Marquette

Wayne Chism dropped 26 points to go with 11 boards and Tennessee's defense stifled Marquette down the stretch to grab a much-needed non-conference marquee win for the Vols, and for the SEC.

Tennessee is the clear favorite to win the struggling conference, especially with Florida, Kentucky and Alabama looking underwhelming in the early going.

In the other Big East - SEC tilt, Vandy easily dropped hapless South Florida. I have NO idea HOW South Florida was selected to participate with 16 Big East teams to choose from, but perhaps they were required to throw the SEC a bone...

Two great yardstick games conclude the four-game challenge on Thursday when Cincinnati hosts Mississippi St. and Mississipi locks up with Louisville, and in brief interim coach (UC will host both games) Andy Kennedy's return to the Queen City.

The SEC needs to get one, if not both to salvage a disastrous December.
